¿?sick beats?¿ October 2020 Edition (part 2)

Happy Halloween! Tunes with plenty of spunk and spook incoming.

Designed by: Poh En Xi (20-E3)

Ghost Choir – Louie Zong

Electronic/instrumental

Tired of all the stereotypical skeletons, zombies and vampires of the season? For a change of pace, this tune is an excellent example of a balance between relaxing and ‘creepy supernaturals’. Paired with adorable ghosts trying to sing with their friends, the animation of them trying their hardest to float/dance is really cute, while still keeping the Halloween theme intact.

Red Right Hand – Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

Alternative rock

“Red Right Hand” is the theme song of the popular British Netflix series, Peaky Blinders, which depicts the story of a gang in 1919 based in Birmingham. With a relatively slow, bassy beat as the backdrop of the song, this song is sure to send a chill down your spine at night. The lyrics and the album cover also fit nicely with the spooky vibes that the song gives off—a must-have for any Halloween song.

Alice of Human Sacrifice – Yugami-P

Alternative

A short tune with disturbing lyrics, Alice of Human Sacrifice is sure to haunt you even days after you first play it on Youtube. While the lyrics narrate a harrowing tale of death and violence, the repetitive melody set in a minor key lulls you into a deep sleep filled with horrific nightmares. Listen…if you dare.

The Beauty Underneath – Andrew Lloyd Webber

Rock

A crucial soundtrack of the hit musical Love Never Dies, also known as sequel to the Phantom of the Opera, this song juxtaposes the deep voice of the Phantom and the sweet, high-pitched voice of a child to create a chilling tune befitting the Halloween theme. The strong beats serve to create an imposing atmosphere that the character Phantom himself possesses, further emphasising the dark vibes of this song.

Milk and Cookies – Melanie Martinez

Alternative/ Indie

The artist references beloved nursery rhymes such as Ring a Ring o’ Roses, One Two Buckle My Shoe and Hush Little Baby. However, one might not want to simply write this off as a mere homage to our childhood favorites. The faint tinkling of a music box can be heard during the chorus, adding a sense of ominosity. The incorporation of elements of popular horror movies, such as A Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream, taints the image of an innocent tune and does an excellent job in making the song sound sinister.

The Theatre – Coraline soundtrack

Instrumental

Coraline tells the tale of an adventurous 11 year old who is consumed by unhappiness with the mundanity of life. However, she quickly realizes the value of the old saying “be careful what you wish for”. The haunting, tinkling sounds of bells eventually evolves into an off-kilter riff, which perfectly illustrates the image of Coraline frantically scrambling to escape with her life whilst completing harrowing missions to save her parents. Dim the lights, crank up the song and you can almost hear the Beldam creeping in the shadows listening and preying on our hearts’ deepest desires…

Brick by Boring Brick – Paramore

Pop Punk, alternative rock, emo

Being boring. People who are described as such are often seen in a negative light. People want to appear ‘cool’ and interesting to avoid this label. While that can be considered to be within human nature, what happens if people take it too far?

Brick by Boring Brick tells a story about just that, and shows the danger of living in your own fantasies, and completely neglecting your realities. The music video starts by painting an ideal fantasy world, before slowly evolving into something much more sinister. The lyrics and the video combined show the growth of the girl in the video, and ends with the girl falling into the grave that she has dug for herself.

Listen to the song, read the many fan interpretations out there, and end this Spooktober having learnt an important lesson.

Bonus recommendation:

Lightning – Little Mix (lennon)

Pop

“Lightning” aptly opens with a mysterious blend of sounds in a storm, setting the mood  for the subsequent introductory melody that reminds one of a trip down the haunted lane. The husky vocals in the beginning set a mystifying scene and are followed by powerful emotive vocals, making the listener ponder upon the final destination of the song. A short operatic insert further amplifies the overall mystical aura the song gives off. Perfect for a Halloween night indeed!

Promos got you down? Here’s a list of blues songs to drive your blues away.

Designed by: Poh En Xi (20-E3)

For many of us, we may be breathing a sigh of relief (or horror) at the results of our promotional examinations. However, it is important to remember that the end may be in sight, but it is not over yet. As we move forward, we have found an apt handful of songs for anyone to listen to whilst revising and studying after examinations. We hope these songs will be able to help you relieve a bit of stress and clear those grey clouds above your head!

  1. Layer Cake – Persona 5

Jazz

The title may seem sweet, but I can assure you that this is a song that will prime you to tackle some serious business (and by that I mean studying). With the bass setting a mysterious tone and the trumpet that lifts the mood, this jazzy tune is sure to get you ready for studying.

  1. 5am in T O K Y O – Stay See

Jazz & hip hop

For those of you who prefer instrumental music over songs with lyrics, this song is for you. It is hard to focus when there are lyrics in a song, but listening to relaxing instrumental music often lulls me to sleep. Fortunately, this tune is perfect for a study session. Combining the best of both worlds, this song can boost your mood during a study session while not distracting you from work – so, do give it a try!

  1. Don’t Cry – Elvira T

            Hip-Hop/Rap

Elvira’s soothing vocals along with the soft melodious strumming of the guitar will be sure to prime you into your zen zone. A good way to calm yourself down after realising it’s the day before the exams and you haven’t touched an entire chapter yet.

  1. Sanctuary – Welshy Arms

Alternative/Indie

“A song in a time where everything seems so dark and out of control. Nothing felt safe, nowhere felt like home and there wasn’t a lot of positive news to find hope in.” As frontman Sam Getz translates through emotionally, hoarse vocals, “Sanctuary” encompasses the safe place we all have in our hearts, providing us with a timely reminder that at the end of the day, hope is always there in the people and things you keep close. For those who need a well-deserved motivational booster!

  1. It’s My Life – Bon Jovi

Pop Rock

It’s my life. And it’s now or never.” For a midnight jam, transform into your alter ego musician and sing the stresses away. Perfect for a late night motivation boost to remind yourself to always push on. You will make it, at the end of the day!

  1. 七時の食事 (Chocolate lemon) – Mitsukiyo (ミツキヨ)

Bossa, BGM

An extremely calming song, with a very dreamy, fluffy feel. One listen and you’re hooked. Play it on repeat in the background, along with Mitsukiyo’s other songs in the same genre, and slowly get lost in your work. Before you know it, hours have passed; yet, the calming touch still lingers. Perfect for productivity as we launch ourselves onward after our exhausting exam season.

  1. Brooklyn in the Summer – Aloe Blacc

Pop

The song’s jaunty tune is incredibly infectious. Accompanied by Aloe’s soulful and easygoing vocals, this is just the right song to brighten your spirits!

  1. 我在呢 – TANK

Mandarin pop

In this wonderful love song, the chorus includes an apt line ‘please don’t cry, everything will be fine’, reminding us that no matter what happens, we can be there for each other, and everything will be fine.

  1. Good Vibes – HRVY, Matoma

Pop

As its name suggests, the uptempo song will be sure to get you into such a good mood that you will start bopping and singing along. The harmony between HRVY’s and Matoma’s vocals is sure to give anyone Good Vibes!

Happy National Day! Here’s sick beats: the Especially Patriotic Edition.

Designed by: Poh Enxi (20-E3)

It’s August, and you know what that means, if the multitude of red and white flags hanging everywhere is any indication—National Day season! To celebrate this special day in even more extraordinary circumstances, the Sick Beats team brings you our ranking of nine National Day songs old and new. Have a listen to feel as patriotic as you would attending a physical NDP, from the comfort of your home (and television)!

  1. Home (1998)

Perhaps the most well-known from our list, Home brings warmth to our hearts whenever we hear it. It is no wonder that this song has been played time and time again during NDP parades. Listen to it, and you will feel surging pride for this beautiful, warm country that we call home. Oops, pun totally intended.

  1. Song For Singapore (2010)

A criminally underrated gem, this song evokes nationalistic pride and nostalgia from even the most cynical of listeners, with lyrics describing how “With every generation, there’s more to be grateful for”. Its lyrical, flowing melody is simple, making it accessible for everyone to sing, yet grand—effortlessly and beautifully realised by Corrinne May, a local singer-songwriter residing in Los Angeles. They don’t write NDP songs like these anymore, do they?

  1. One Singapore (2013)

Whenever this song begins to play, it is inevitable that we would all stand up and dance together, laughing at each other’s attempts at the rap and proudly singing “woah, oh-oh-oh!” together. The song’s fun and upbeat rhythm makes it a must-sing at every school’s National Day celebration and is by far one of the best NDP songs from the 2010s.

  1. One People, One Nation, One Singapore (1990)

When schools used to give out song sheets for National Day, this song will inevitably show up. Its patriotic tune, easy-to-remember lyrics and andante tempo, this song is a national favourite sung at almost every NDP Parade and school celebration. There is just something about this song that makes us all proud of being a Singaporean, and being able to celebrate it together as one country.

  1. Count On Me, Singapore (1986)

A country is only as good as its people are. So, don’t worry, Singapore, you may count on us. A song that rouses the people to serve the country together, for we are Singapore. Definitely a classic favourite of the older generation, while still being relevant for us in the present and future.

  1. We Are Singapore (1987)

With the pledge incorporated into the song as a bridge, it is a truly memorable song that reminds us of how Singapore has progressed as a nation since our independence and has brought Singaporeans together, regardless of race, language and religion. A truly sentimental and classic NDP song.

  1. What Do You See (2009)

The opening description of Singapore and our visions are so beautifully crafted into fitting lyrics for this song. While this song may be of a slightly slower tempo than some other National Day songs, this can also be seen as one of its strong points as it makes this tune more emotionally impactful for fellow Singaporeans that are listening to it.

  1. Where I Belong (2001)

The artist’s gentle voice paired with words of loved ones and sweet memories of home really soothes the soul. Your body might unconsciously start to sway as you listen more and more. For us, the best part was when the beat started to pick up and the song transformed into one of nostalgia and evoked a sense of belonging.

  1. Everything I Am (2020)

Unfortunately, this year’s song was our least favourite. While its down-tempo beats, muted instrumentals and of course Nathan Hartono’s honeyed voice may render it enjoyable for some, we found it to be slightly lacking in the emotional weight that a good ballad possesses, no thanks to its indistinct and meandering melody, which makes it difficult to remember and sing for most. Recent years have seen a trend of similarly low-energy NDP songs, which we hope to see changed.

Mood lifter compilation incoming!

Designed by: Poh En Xi (20-E3)

Some of us may be feeling down after the JCTs, believing that this is the end all and that our grades would never recover, while the rest of us are feeling under the weather due to the breakdown of our social lives, brought about by the current pandemic. It is totally okay to feel that way and perhaps, you’re wondering what you can do to make yourself feel better. We got you covered! So here is a compilation of our best mood lifters, bound to raise your spirits and bring back your summer mood.

Please Never Fall in Love Again – Ollie MN

Genre: Alternative, Indie

A dose of em feels, Chill

The song describes a person getting into a relationship and how great love can be. With the soft strumming of the guitar in the song, it gives off a soothing vibe and it is great for study sessions, especially during late nights since the song was first revealed in Ollie MN’s sleepless session 1. 8.5/10

Hard Times – Paramore

Genre: Punk Rock

Mood booster

When listening to this tune, the raw and relatable lyrics might be the first thing that catches you off guard and gets you jamming to their melody. But as you continue to listen, this song might just elicit a few chuckles. From the goofy visuals and sound effects, the band really does a great job of making anyone’s struggles seem smaller and less overwhelming. It truly is a song to listen to when going through any ordeal. 9/10

Will Be Forgetting This – Elijah Naslin ft. Elbot

Genre: Pop

Mood booster

With a catchy beat and striking vocals, this is definitely a song for a mini jam session with friends or family. Playing this song when you just want to let loose will leave you instantly recharged. It has been a rough journey so far but hopefully this song can get you through these rough times so don’t forget to have fun now and then! 8/10

Rather Be – Clean Bandit

Genre: Pop

Mood booster

It is hard to imagine anyone who does not get pumped up whenever this song is played. The song is extremely catchy but its meaningful lyrics about how support from loved ones can get you through anything, are what struck me the most. These dull days might bog you down but never forget that there are people around you who have your back. 8/10

Робот – t.A.T.u.

Genre: Pop/rock

Mood booster

The starting beats of the song include the repetition of the English phrase “I am a robot” over and over again, paving way for the upbeat verses and chorus, which are sure to cheer you up when you are in the lows. Arguably the happiest song in the entire album, Робот poses a stark contrast to the other darker melodies, and is a gem that I wished I could have discovered earlier. 7.5/10

Chocolate – Serebro

Genre: Bubblegum pop

Mood booster

A rare English song from the popular Russian girl band, the lyrics of the song are as sweet as the title implies. When enjoyed alongside the attractive music video, this song is bound to cheer you up when you are pulling hairs over your JCT results. 7/10

I’m Still Standing – Elton John

Genre: Pop

Mood Booster

This is one of those old-school songs that pump you up with its upbeat and quick rhythm. This song is fun to jam out to, and the 80’s vibe is nostalgically vibrant that it will be difficult to stop yourself from dancing to the music. We may be feeling stressed out, but it is important to set aside time to enjoy the simplest things in life like music. 8.5/10

I’m Here – Cynthia Erivo

Genre: Theater

Mood Booster

From the musical “The Colour Purple”, this song is inspiring and powerful in its message. Its lyrics speak volumes about appreciating life, no matter how hard or cruel it may be, and being grateful for all we have and for who we are. Whenever you are feeling like you are not worth it, this song will lift your spirits and your confidence, and remind you that you are beautiful. 9/10

Bonus Recommendation

I See A Rose – Lauren Ong

Genre: Indie, acoustic

Chill, lo-fi

A sweet, lilting melody, sounds of rain, understated yet goosebump-inducing instrumentals, pretty vocals; what more could one ask for in a study song? This song has a misty, hazy mood and induces an instant atmosphere of chill – think pastel colours sonified. It will do wonders for your study ethic, as it’s equally wonderful softly playing in the background. Bonus: this song was composed and produced by a Eunoian – Lauren of 20-U1! 8.5/10

¿?sick beats?¿

This Sick Beats issue is specially curated for those mugging for upcoming examinations. We got your back!

Designed by: Poh Enxi (20-E3)

With the June Common Tests upon us all, our return to school and the great outdoors may seem dismal and tinged with stress. In light of this and our extraordinary circumstances, the Sick Beats team will be bringing you a specially curated playlist of songs and instrumentals alike to calm, chill, vibe and (most importantly) study to! If ever you grow weary of listening to endless streams of study lo-fi, this is the playlist for you.

I’d Rather Be Me (With You) – ft. Zach Callison

Genre: Soundtrack

A dose of em Feels

A sweet and pure song about the bliss of being with your loved one. What more could you want? The soft strumming of a guitar paired with the soothing voice of the artist forms this gorgeous melody that can be looped over and over without getting tired of it. Feel free to alleviate the pain of your mundane mugging with these soft tunes! 8/10

Love Like You – ft. Rebecca Sugar

Genre: Jazz

Chill

Don’t get me wrong, the original soundtrack has amazing vocals but I figured that songs with lesser vocals could help you focus better. This does not mean that the instrumental version is inferior in any way however. Its melody paints such a serene scenery in your mind and, with its subtle jazz vibe, helps you settle into its relaxing and melancholic tune. Perfect for turning down your stress levels while preparing for the upcoming exams. 8/10

Virus – ft. Lena Katina

Genre: Synthpop

Chill

Lyrics about a passionate love combined with slick beats created this club-style song. The soothing voice of Russian singer Lena Katina (previously a member of T.a.t.u) is bound to calm you down while you stress over GP essays. So let the soft beats wash over you! 8/10

Blizhe (“Closer” in Russian) – ft. Lena Katina

Genre: Soundtrack from an Acoustic EP

A does of em feels

While the original soundtrack has really hype beats, I thought that the acoustic version would be easier to study with. The soft strumming of the guitar engenders a constant that calms one down when he/she is stressed. At the same time, Lena’s emotional singing in Russian and gentle inhales create a relaxing ensemble that makes it easy for listeners to concentrate while completing their homework. 9/10

Assassin’s Creed The Flight

Genre: Video Game soundtracks

Mood booster

Scientifically proven to help with focus, video game soundtracks are what I turn to for a chill study session. This piece is for those who enjoy the adrenaline rush from playing video games and who want to feel something similar while studying. This score from the action video game Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will make studying feel heroic and inspiring, like seeking knowledge in Plato’s Academy of Athens. 8/10

Merry-Go-Round – Joe Hisaishi

Genre: Film score

A dose of em feels

Studio Ghibli films are known to have soundtracks that sound nostalgic, transporting you to the bright, sunny landscapes of their films. The soft piano in this piece is not too distracting or overpowering, but makes you feel a sweet sense of nostalgia. If you too want to escape your anxieties and stress, or to imitate Youtube’s lofi hip hop radio girl, this is the song that you should turn to! 9/10

Dream Launch – WayV

Genre: Asian Pop

Chill, mood booster

Before you roll your eyes at another Chinese song, this is different – the world of C-Pop extends far beyond slow, old-timey ballads. Dream Launch uplifts and refreshes study-weary minds with its relaxed tempo and simple instrumentation, with a lovely vocal melody that’s catchy without being too intrusive. The thoughtful, outer space-themed lyrics describe persevering despite failure – perfect for study sessions. 8.5/10

You Say I’m in Love – Banes World

Genre: Indie, Chill

A dose of em feels, Chill

With a retro 60s vibe, the song has a calm and soothing chorus accompanied by a lo-fi beat, making it a piece of perfect background music for late-night studying sessions. Being a relatively short song, it is a song that you would surely play on repeat over and over again while mugging for the upcoming examinations! 8/10

O lume intreaga (“A Whole World” in Romanian) – ft. Ioana Ignat

Genre: Pop

A dose of em feels

A song about the heartache experienced after an intense love. Ioana Ignat’s unique vocals bring out the sadness in the lyrics, making this song an art piece that is to be listened to over and over again. Not only that, the regular beats and slow tempo helps one to concentrate while doing their work. 10/10

Daft Punk – Get Lucky

Genre: Disco/Funk

Mood booster, Party/Rave.

(Suggested by Gerald Oh, 19-I4)

If I had to summarise this song’s vibe, I would say that it reminds me of the song “September 21”. With a groovy and funky tone, this song makes you want to party no matter where you are. Although it won’t hype you up like EDM, feel free to enjoy this song if you just want a song to jam to in your free time. 7/10

Bebe Rexha – You can’t stop the girl

Genre: Pop

Mood booster.

(Suggested by Anonymous)

The unique vocals were the first thing that captured my attention, and it really gave this song incredible depth. Combined with its upbeat and positive message, this song can motivate just about anyone who is feeling a little down in the dumps. Need some motivation to keep you going? Then, check this song out! 8/10

Deafheaven – Near

Genre: Indie, Rock

Chill

(Suggested by Anonymous)

With sweeping, atmospheric instrumentals and airy vocals, this song is dreamily wistful – perfect for relaxing or contemplating mysteries of the universe. Bring some cool, autumnal vibes to your playlist by giving this a listen. Great motivational studying music, too, for those times when you ask “Can I rest for a while?” 8.5/10

Halsey – Roman Holiday

Genre: Synth-pop

A dose of them feels

(Suggested by Anonymous)

Not to be confused with the song of the same name by Nicki Minaj, Roman Holiday conveys all the emotion and escapism of young love. Lush waves of synth and Halsey’s raw, soulful vocals work in tandem to evoke feelings of nostalgia, summer nights and neon-lit highways. Best played during quiet drives alone, or solitary jam sessions (for those of us who are unlicensed). 8/10

Conan Gray – Crush Culture

Genre: Pop

A dose of them feels, chill

(Suggested by Anonymous)

With dreamy vocals, Conan Gray talks about the issues and unrealisticness of crushes. This is a song many can relate to. After all, who hasn’t had a crush at some point in their life? A go-to song to listen to late at night when you’re feeling sad, this song would also be great background music when studying due to the chill vibes the song gives off. 8/10

Grace Vanderwaal – I don’t know my name

Genre: Soul

A dose of them feels, Mood booster

(Suggested by Anonymous)

Originally performed on America’s Got Talent, this song describes the exploration of Grace Vanderwaal’s identity and her trying to find her way in life. With a relatively upbeat tune being played on a ukulele that is accompanied by a raspy and soulful voice that is unique to Grace Vanderwaal, this is the kind of song that would be perfect to jam along to, be it by yourself or with friends. 7/10

AJR – Bud Like You

Genre: Pop

Mood booster, Party

(Suggested by Anonymous)

AJR’s “Bud Like You” describes someone’s relationship with his best friend and the trust they have between them to make it through difficult and sticky situations together. This song is perfect if you are with your friends (online!) and you want to have a fun campfire feel to the gathering, as well as to sing along with your friends.  9/10

Alanis Morissette / Cast of Jagged Little Pill – All I Really Want

Genre: Musicals/Pop

Mood booster

(Suggested by Anonymous)

“All I Really Want” describes a need to vent anger, frustrations and anxiety in life, paired with a fast-paced and rhythmic track to go along with it. The two versions of the song by Alanis Morissette and the Jagged Little Pill are amazing, but depending if you enjoy a more rock or musical style of singing, you might enjoy one more than the other. Considering the current situation and its uncertainties, this song is good if you want to dance around your room to release your stress and worries. 8/10

Bonus personal recommendation:

Rainych – Say So (Japanese cover)

Genre: Pop

Mood booster, chill

Grungy 70s hip hop of the original track infused with the cute vocals of the cover artist – the result, a refreshing rendition that is a must to hear. Even though this cover is not in English, this song manages to keep you addicted to its groovy tunes. Also, this cover is safe to blast out loud so go ahead and enjoy the song with family and friends! 9.5/10

Lana Del Rey – Looking For America

Genre: Alternative/Indie

Helps to focus when studying, A dose of them feels, Chill, personally it helps me calm down when i’m stressed and helps me get to sleep faster

(Suggested by Anonymous)

‘Looking for America’ is calm and wistful and the lyrics are our favourite part of the song as it wonderfully juxtaposes the singer’s idealistic hopes of peace against the harsh reality she lives in. May America one day be a country “One without the gun, where the flag can freely fly”. 9/10.

Ariana Grande, Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus – Don’t Call Me Angel

Genre: Pop

Hype you up on a sleepy day

(Suggested by Anonymous)

As rare as it is to see these three artists working together to create one song, this song really managed to capture each individual artist’s different and vibrant colours in a rhythmic, catchy and empowering way. If a sassy attitude was ever personified, this would be his or her go-to anthem. 8.5/10.

Sachin-Jigar, Mika Singh, Nikhita Gandhi, Benny Dayal – Sanedo

Genre: Asian Pop (KPop, JPop, CPop etc.), Filmi, Bollywood

Hype you up on a sleepy day, Mood Booster, Party / Rave

(Suggested by Roan Ng, 19-E3)

Although I personally could not understand what the lyrics were about, the music video and the catchy beats in the instrumentals were still effective in drawing in my attention and making me listen to the full song. It did not appeal greatly to my personal taste however, but I still found it to be a light, charming little song. A heavily biased 7.8/10.

Joji, Jackson Wang, Swae Lee, Major Lazer – Walking

Genre: Pop

Mood Booster, Chill

(Suggested by Anonymous)

The moment the first melodies of the song flowed through my earphones, something in me instinctively screamed, “88rising!”. The soft yet distinct beats paired with lofi vibes, along with the bittersweet lyrics which all came together in a ridiculously harmonious way, this song really turned my night time into a sad-girl hour for 2 minutes and 51 seconds straight. 9.8/10.

Bruno Mars – When I Was Your Man

Genre: Pop

A dose of them feels

(Suggested by Anonymous)

This 2012 hit presents vulnerabilities and emotions that come along after a failed relationship, encapsulated in Mars’ smooth vocals and soulful lyrics. We suggest that you prepare some tissues as you listen. 8/10.

BTS (Jin) – Epiphany

Genre: Asian Pop (KPop, JPop, CPop etc.)

Mood Booster

(Suggested by Anonymous)

Besides Jin’s mesmerising voice, the inspiring lyrics about loving yourself before loving others (“I’m the one I should love in this world”) make this song one of those tunes we think everyone should have in their playlist. This is a solid and unbiased 9/10.

The 1975 – Frail State of Mind

Genre: Alternative/Indie

Helps to focus when studying, Mood Booster, Chill, helps with my anxiety

(Suggested by Anonymous)

The beat and melody was nothing like I have ever heard before. I could not help but be mesmerized as I started to zone out and focus only on the song. With the lyrics being sung in a withdrawn and distant manner, it evoked a slight sense of loneliness and unknown nostalgia as I thought back of the day when my prom date was elected as Prom King and he could not bring me home as the popular cheerleaders invited him to their party, which resulted in me walking back home alone and barefoot, my high heels dangling in my right hand . . . Wait, what? 8.5/10.

JP Saxe, Julia Michaels – If the World Was Ending

Genre: Pop

A dose of them feels

(Suggested by Anonymous)

If it was ever possible to make someone miss their past lover whom they have lost due to unspeakable events, this song would be it. The pure desperation for that familiar comfort of their exes were portrayed in such a sensitive and raw manner by both artists that it left my heart aching for a tragic love story that did not even take place. This is perfect background music for those days when you just want to feel a little moody as you watch raindrops race down your glass window. 9/10.

Bonus recommendation:

Florina – Va Va Vis

Genre: French Pop

A dose of them feels, Chill

As someone has said in the past, there really are no boundaries in language when it comes to music. Despite this song being an introductory song to my current obsession with foreign pop, I still find myself returning to this familiar tune, and even singing some parts of the song along. So go on, go, and live on – and don’t forget to smile along the way . . . Va va vis! 9.5/10, heavily recommended.
